About
Currently, I am an elementary teacher at Juniors International School in Oluyole, Ibadan, Nigeria. I teach Basic Science and also serve as the coordinator of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) club. I have experience mentoring pupils in developing science projects for science exhibitions. These project topics include water cycle, global warming, electromagnetism, electricity and so on.
I work in an inclusive classroom setting and have firsthand insight into the transformative power of individualized instruction, differentiated learning and integrated technology especially for pupils with learning disabilities.
One of the most defining experience in my teaching career happened during a science lesson. Among my students were two children diagnosed with dyslexia, a learning disorder characterized by difficulty in reading. They had difficulty reading and understanding concepts taught, this reduced their participation during lessons and affected their academic performance. Drawing from my knowledge of individualized education plans (IEP) and differentiated learning, I adapted my lessons by incorporating audio-visuals, interactive slides and peer-learning. Few weeks later, I began to notice their eagerness to answer questions and make contributions during class activities. By the end of the school session, there was a commendable improvement in science tests and examinations. The pride and confidence on the children’s faces reaffirms my belief that when learning strategies are tailored to individual needs, every learner can experience success.
