Besides being an academic practitioner, I was a netball coach for the school team and won several trophies. I became a provincial coordinator of netball for 5 years. I was also an advocate on the Girl Child affairs whereby I helped in counselling on Early marriages and early pregnancies in school. My duties were to give reports and statistics to the Social Worker. I am also a Christian, who enjoys facilitating in Christian education by imparting God’s word into our daily lives.
I migrated to South Africa in 2007, where I advanced my studies and acquired a BA degree in Environmental Management with University of South Africa (UNISA) which I majored in Geography. I taught Geography in both private and government schools with its associated subjects like Social Sciences. I then furthered my studies and I am a holder of B Ed in Mathematics at the University of Rhodes in South Africa. On my transcript I got distinctions in Mathematics Literacy and Methodologies. I have experience of teaching ages between 12-18 years for the past 15 years in South Africa. My commitment in teaching is to ensure that learners have maximized their potentials. I use a variety of teaching strategies which include discussions, demonstrations, pair and group activities so that learners engage in the learning process.
I understand that learners grasp conceptual understanding through visualization of activities and be able to get the number sense. Knowing my learners by names help me to understand their weaknesses and strengths which will lead to positive relationship with them to enhance constructive learning environment. I also have a responsibility at district level of the South African department of education to organize workshops and facilitate management plans and sharing best practices to the new mathematics teachers. From the community I teach I also engage with parents in activities like young farmers club, netball club and bible studies. As a lifelong learner I look forward to suit well in a new environment and achieve the best of my capabilities.
