About
I am a dedicated and compassionate educator with 11 years of teaching experience in the Philippine public school system. I have experience working with diverse learners and teaching different grade levels and subjects. I have served as an Alternative Learning System (ALS) teacher, a classroom teacher and adviser, and a Guidance Designate. I am currently teaching Grade 9 Economics, where I help students understand economic concepts and apply them to real-life situations.
One of my strongest skills is classroom management. I establish clear rules, routines, and expectations at the beginning of the school year and consistently reinforce them throughout the year. I believe that a structured but caring classroom helps students feel safe, respected, and ready to learn. My approach is firm but friendly, and I always try to understand the reasons behind a student's behavior before deciding how to respond.
I also have experience in differentiated instruction and supporting students with different learning needs. I provide one-on-one tutoring for students who struggle with reading and comprehension, while students who are already performing at grade level receive more challenging activities that develop their critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. I use assessments to identify students who need additional support and adjust my instruction based on their individual needs.
In my teaching, I also integrate technology, visual aids, interactive quizzes, educational games, group activities, and real-life examples to keep students engaged. For example, when teaching Economics, I use familiar situations such as changes in the prices of food and school supplies to help students understand concepts such as demand and supply, opportunity cost, and consumer behavior.
One of my significant achievements is completing my Master of Arts in Special Education (MASPED), major in Learner Developmental Needs. My graduate studies strengthened my understanding of learners with different abilities and helped me develop a more inclusive and student-centered approach to teaching. Although my primary teaching experience has been in the regular classroom, I have gained valuable experience supporting students who need additional academic and behavioral assistance.
Throughout my career, I have learned that being an effective teacher requires patience, flexibility, collaboration, and continuous professional growth. I am proud of the experience I have gained in the Philippines, but I am also eager to learn from the American education system, work with diverse students and colleagues, and contribute my knowledge and experience to a U.S. school community.
