About
My name is Borame Kennedy, I am writing to express my sincere interest to teach chemistry, STEM science. I am a passionate, reflective, and purpose-driven teacher with an unwavering commitment to inspiring the next generation of scientists and critical thinkers. With a strong academic background in chemistry and Science education and extensive teaching experience in Ghana, I believe that my dedication to learning and my ability to adapt quickly to new environments make me an ideal candidate for your programme.
From the early stages of my academic journey at Sam Boachie Memorial International School, I realised that I wanted to make a tangible difference in young lives through teaching. This inner calling drove me to pursue a Diploma in Basic Education in July 2016, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry Education from the University of Cape Coast , which I completed in April 2022. These formative experiences provided me with a robust foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of teaching science. They also instilled in me a deep appreciation for the transformative power of education—a realisation that has continuously fuelled my passion for teaching.
Throughout my teaching career, I have had the opportunity to work in diverse educational settings, including positions at Abetifi Presbyterian Senior High School in the Eastern Region of Ghana, Mankranso Senior High School during my internship, and Ashiabre M/A Primary School where I served as a classroom teacher from 2017 to 2020. My role as a Chemistry teacher has allowed me to develop effective strategies for explaining complex scientific concepts in accessible ways, which has enabled students from varied backgrounds to engage actively with the subject matter. These experiences have not only solidified my subject knowledge but have also affirmed my belief in the importance of personalised, student-centred teaching.
I am particularly proud of my reflective teaching practice. I continuously assess both my strengths and areas for improvement by actively seeking feedback from colleagues and pupils. This ongoing self-reflection is not merely a professional obligation; it is a personal passion that drives me to improve and excel continuously. I am also recognised as a quick learner who adapts promptly to new teaching methodologies and environments—a quality that has proven invaluable as I have transitioned across various academic settings and encountered new cultural contexts.
Planning is another cornerstone of my teaching philosophy. I am a purposeful planner who invests considerable time designing lesson plans that are both comprehensive and flexible enough to meet the diverse learning needs of my pupils. By devising detailed yet adaptable curriculum strategies, I ensure that every lesson aligns with broader educational objectives while also catering to the immediate interests and abilities of my pupils. This systematic approach to lesson planning is complemented by my energetic and proactive presence in the classroom, where I strive to maximise each pupil’s potential with a “go-getter” attitude.
My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that learning is a collaborative journey. I endeavour to create classroom environments where pupils feel secure, supported, and encouraged to ask questions, make mistakes, and ultimately learn from those experiences. This nurturing approach not only fosters academic growth but also builds the confidence and curiosity essential for lifelong learning. I view each class as an opportunity to spark critical thinking, creativity, and a genuine love for science. I am convinced that every child can achieve remarkable success when provided with the right guidance and a stimulating learning context.
Beyond my classroom responsibilities, I am committed to ongoing professional development as a teacher. I regularly participate in workshops, attend educational conferences, and collaborate with fellow teachers, all of which contribute to my continuous professional and personal growth. My belief in lifelong learning is paramount, particularly in today’s rapidly evolving academic landscape where staying abreast of the latest teaching trends and scientific discoveries is essential. This commitment to professional development not only benefits my pupils but also enriches the broader teaching community with fresh ideas and innovative methodologies.
Outside the classroom, I am an advocate for the value of extracurricular activities in providing a well-rounded educational experience. My hobbies—soccer, reading, and listening to music—have taught me the importance of balance and the pursuit of diverse interests. These activities have enriched my understanding of different cultures and perspectives, making it easier for me to connect with my pupils on multiple levels. I firmly believe that such interests help in bringing a human touch to my professional practice, enabling me to remain approachable and relatable at all times.
I am inspired by the vision and mission of educational institutions in the United State which are globally recognised for their commitment to academic excellence and their supportive learning environments. I am excited about the prospect of further developing my teaching career in an environment that values diversity, innovation, and inclusivity. The emphasis of the U.S educational system on reflective teaching and continuous improvement resonates profoundly with my own beliefs and professional experiences. I look forward to learning from esteemed mentors, collaborating with dedicated colleagues, and contributing to a vibrant academic community that champions excellence.
My decision to apply for the Science with CHEMISTRY Education programme is a natural progression in my teaching journey. I am eager to refine my teaching practice, broaden my perspectives, and immerse myself in new methodologies and educational frameworks. I am confident that the knowledge and skills I acquire through this programme will empower me to better support my pupils, play a vital role in shaping future scientists and innovators, and contribute meaningfully to any institution that I serve.
In summary, I am a dedicated, resourceful, and reflective teacher with a solid background in Chemistry education, a passion for lifelong learning, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching. My diverse experiences in various educational settings have equipped me with the ability to adapt swiftly, plan effectively, and lead with both enthusiasm and empathy. I am excited about the prospect of joining your programme and further enhancing my skills in an environment that nurtures academic excellence and innovation. I eagerly anticipate contributing my experiences, energy, and passion to your academic community while embracing the challenges and rewards that modern teaching practices present.
