About
Dear Principal,
I am writing to apply for the Secondary School Biology and General Science Teacher position. For the past five years I have taught Biology and General Science in two Kenyan secondary schools, building
lessons around laboratory work and field study rather than lecture alone, which has prepared me to run a hands-on science classroom from day one.
At Gathiru High School I teach Biology and General Science through practical, learner-centered activities, including laboratory experiments, field studies, and environmental conservation projects. I mentor students preparing for science fairs and school exhibitions, guiding them through the full process of forming a question, testing it, and presenting results. This work has shown me how much students grow when they are given room to investigate rather than simply receive information.
Before that, at Canon Kituri High School, I taught science coursework while coaching hockey, football, and lawn tennis, and coordinating both the Science Club and the Scouts Movement. Running these programs alongside classroom teaching taught me how to manage a full schedule without letting either the academic or extracurricular side slip, and it gave me a clear picture of how students behave outside a formal lesson, which has made me a better teacher inside one.
