About
When I was offered admission to study Education Chemistry, it wasn’t my first choice. Like many students in Nigeria, I had applied for a different course but was given another. At the time, I accepted it simply as an alternative path to a degree. But everything changed during my teaching practice at Emmanuel College, Owerri, where I met a quiet student named Chika who struggled to read aloud in class. I spent several afternoons working with her, beginning with short sentences and building up gradually. The day she read an entire page fluently, her classmates cheered, and in that moment, I realized I hadn’t just found a course; I had found a calling. It is this deep sense of purpose and fulfillment that now drives me to apply for the teaching role at your prestigious school, where I hope to continue transforming learning moments into lifelong confidence for children.
Since then, I have committed myself to helping children discover the joy of learning, no matter their starting point or background. Over the years, I have worked with children who learn at different paces, including those with mild learning difficulties, attention challenges, and low confidence in self-expression. These experiences have taught me the power of patience, differentiation, and empathy in building lasting academic and emotional growth. In my current role as a Grade 3 Teacher at the Department of Primary Education Demonstration School, Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, I have had the rare privilege of teaching in an environment that models best practices for trainee teachers and also demands innovation and adaptability from those of us in the classroom. Unlike conventional schools where the focus is primarily on curriculum delivery, the demonstration school combines theory with practice, serving as both a learning lab for future educators and a vibrant classroom for young pupils. This dual setting has challenged me to be more reflective, creative, and research-minded in my teaching approach. It has been a game changer in my career, sharpening my ability to design lessons that are informative and transformative, where every activity is intentional, evidence-based, and responsive to the unique needs of each learner.
One of my significant milestones has been founding a reading club that now includes over 50 pupils from Grades 3 to 5, where book discussions and inter-class quiz competitions have improved comprehension scores by approximately 20% while cultivating teamwork and curiosity. Working in a demonstration school has deepened my understanding of reflective teaching and the impact of mentorship, and I intend to carry this forward by continuing to develop learning experiences that not only meet curriculum goals but also nurture critical thinking, empathy, and confidence in every child.
Staying ahead as a teacher has always meant staying curious. I make a conscious effort to keep learning, whether through formal training, professional certifications, or quiet moments of reflection after class. Earning my Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate and registering with the Teacher’s Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) have both deepened my understanding of inclusive, child-centered teaching and strengthened my ability to connect learning with real-world application. But beyond credentials, I believe what truly sustains me in this profession is character, patience when lessons take longer than planned, empathy when a child struggles, and consistency when progress feels slow. These values have helped me build trust with students, colleagues, and parents, and they continue to shape the kind of teacher I strive to become every day.
Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the opportunity to bring my passion for learning, proven classroom results, and genuine love for children to your teaching team.
