About
I am a Senior English Language Arts and ESL teacher with over twenty years of experience teaching Grades 7 to 12 in diverse, multilingual classrooms in Nairobi, Kenya. I bring strong instructional skills, cultural adaptability, and professionalism that align closely with the goals of the J 1 Exchange Teacher Program. I value collaboration, open communication, and mutual respect, and I approach my work with a strong sense of responsibility and integrity.
Throughout my career, I have demonstrated flexibility and resilience while working with students from varied cultural, linguistic, and academic backgrounds. I believe in inclusive, student centered teaching that responds to individual learner needs while maintaining high academic expectations. My teaching practice is guided by careful assessment, reflective planning, and a genuine commitment to helping every student succeed.
In my current role as Senior ELA and ESL Teacher at Consolata School in Nairobi, I provide instructional leadership while working closely with colleagues to strengthen teaching and learning across the school. I mentor junior teachers, support curriculum development, and help coordinate academic support initiatives. Through targeted literacy instruction and consistent classroom practices, I have helped improve reading comprehension and writing proficiency by 20 to 30 percent and contributed to steady improvements in national examination results. I also use digital learning tools to support engagement, feedback, and student accountability.
Previously, at Mary Leakey Girls High School, I served as an English Teacher and Academic Support Lead. In this role, I showed strong organization, initiative, and commitment to student growth by leading literacy support programs for underperforming learners and using assessment results to guide instruction. I also coached students in debate and writing activities, helping them develop confidence, leadership skills, and critical thinking.
Earlier in my career at Pioneer School, I taught English and literature in highly multilingual settings, where I strengthened my cross cultural communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with students and parents. I established reading programs and debate clubs that increased participation and student confidence, contributing to a supportive and motivated learning environment.
I hold a Bachelor of Education in English and Literature from Egerton University and I am a licensed secondary school teacher with the Teachers Service Commission of Kenya. I have additional training in blended learning, digital instruction, and child protection in education, reflecting my commitment to professional growth and student well being.
As a J 1 Exchange Teacher candidate, I offer reliability, adaptability, collaboration, and a genuine interest in cultural exchange. I am eager to contribute positively to U S schools by supporting diverse learners, working collaboratively with colleagues, sharing my global perspective, and learning from the U S education system while upholding the professional standards of the exchange program.
