About
My name is Abigail Afi Horsowu, a certified educator from Ghana. I love education, student growth and intercultural learning. I have a bachelor’s degree in education with a concentration in Junior High School. I have had a lot of teaching experience at that level of education. I am writing this message to introduce myself as an aspiring international educator looking for a teaching position in the United States. During my education career I have developed a strong commitment to creating a positive, inclusive and stimulating learning environment that helps to enable students to develop their academic skills, confidence, creativity and communication skills.
My teaching experience has included preparing lesson plans and instructional materials, teaching English language lessons, assessing students through assignments, tests and examinations, maintaining accurate academic records and assisting students in subjects such as reading, writing, grammar, comprehension and communication. I have also developed skills in managing the classroom and adapting my teaching approaches to the different learning needs of my students.
I am a teacher from Ghana, and I believe I can add an international dimension to the American classroom. Ghana and the United States are both countries where English is a primary language of instruction, but each educational setting also offers unique cultural experiences and perspectives. I am excited to share snippets of Ghanaian culture with students and to learn from American students, teachers and the wider school community. I believe that education is not only about academic achievement but also about building understanding between cultures. I am eager to contribute my knowledge, teaching experience, dedication and willingness to learn to a school community in the United States. I am a hard worker, flexible, patient, responsible and committed to my student’s success. I am willing to learn new methods of teaching, work with other teachers, take part in school activities and contribute positively to the community where I will be placed.
