ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM TEACHER
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provides an educational program for pupils in grades K-5, or a combination thereof, and assists in other school programs as assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skill, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Holds parent conferences when needed to discuss the individual pupil’s progress, and interpret the school program.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff, members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, social hygiene, attitude, and learning problems.
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-elected professional growth activities.
- Performs necessary attendance accounting and business services.
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies and maintains required inventory records.
- Insures a comfortable room environment, through control of heating, lighting, and ventilation to the extent possible.
- Shares equitably in supervising pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the normal working day.
- Administers group standardized test in accordance with district testing program.
- Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees. Attends faculty meetings for the purpose of disseminating information and formulating school policies and procedures.
- Shares equitably in the supervision of student curricular and extra curricular activities.
- Participates in faculty committees and faculty meetings for the purpose of disseminating information and formulating school policies and procedures.
- Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals when integrally related to areas of responsibility.
- Complies with State education code and District board policy.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIP:
Under the immediate direction of the site administrator or designee.

Workyear: Teacher’s workyear
Salary: Placement on teacher’s salary schedule
Sick Leave: Ten (10) days yearly
